Simon Banner

The top picture is of Simon playing on one of the K'nex projects I was building. He really loves to play with and climb on the K'nex. K'nex is a plastic building set of rods and connectors, and when we first started building the Big Ball Factory, I thought Simon would be horrified and we'd have to remove it from the room. On the contrary. His eyes lit up right away, and he climbed right off his cage and headed for the K'nex, climbed right up and started playing. He likes to chew on the pieces, but other than the rubber "track" they are too hard for him to damage, so he is allowed to play all he wants on them.

The next picture is of Simon when we visited a local radio station. Simon was the star of the show that day. He whooped it up through the whole time we were there! I guess that was his "15" minutes of fame, though it lasted about an hour and a half.

In the above photo, Simon is enjoying one of his showers. He prefers to take them with me, but this is one occasion where he had a ball on his own! It is so much fun to take him into the shower with me. I bought a shower perch for him shortly after I got him, but of course now it is used for all the birds. If you've never taken a shower with a parrot that loves water, you don't know what you are missing!

The bottom photo shows Simon playing underneath his cage. He occasionally goes down there to play with toys that fall under there. It is a clean area, since he has cage papers on top of the grate in his cage. Does this nesty behavior tell me that he is really female?

One of Simon's nicknames is the Little Green Scream Machine. He got that handle when he started screaming during the whole dinner cooking process. He is not patient when it comes to waiting for food!

Simon has a few tricks that he can do. The first one is to flap his wings madly when he is lifted into the air on a finger, and told to exercise. The second one is to do a loop around my fingers. The third one is to play dead. I flip him over onto his back, and lay him into my hand, where he lays there, feet extended into the air for a moment or two. I'm really proud that he trusts me to do that with him.

One of Simon's favorite tunes to whistle:

Simon likes to eat his meals with me. He's tried so many new foods that way. If Mom is eating it, then it must be good, huh? It doesn't matter if he has his own dish in his cage of whatever I am eating, he would prefer to be right there with me, eating off my plate. Kind of a messy table mate, but he sure is cute!

When I watch movies at night, Simon is always my buddy. He will sit on me for a whole movie without having to take a potty break. But, beware, the instant the credits start rolling, it is time to put him back on his cage. He's sat through a two hour movie without moving or making any deposits on me. Sometimes he snoozes during the movie, but other times he seems riveted to the screen.

1999 has brought a big change in Simon's life. He and Peli are now buddies! They both hop back and forth to each other cages whenever they like, and play together, preen each other, and have even been caught eating out of the same dish. Peli has long since shown that he would like to be Simon's buddy, but it took nearly two years for Simon to decide that he was going to agree.

Here is a photo of the two of them sharing a bite of some pudding.

Don't miss the pictures of Simon's special Christmas gift!

Simon had his own photo shoot this summer (1999). It was pretty impromptu. I had taken him with me when I went to pick up the photos I'd taken of Rachel, our Tibetan Terrier. The photographer offered to take some pictures of Simon for free, so of course we couldn't turn that down! Check out my handsome fellow!

Meaning of the name Simon

Your name of Simon creates a quick, clever mind capable of grasping and assimilating new ideas. You are rather studious, mentally challenging each new idea before accepting it. Because you learn so quickly you have little patience with those whose mental processes are somewhat slower, and you become supercilious or somewhat "know it all" in your attitude. Although you are very knowledgeable and intelligent, you lack the ability to express yourself properly through the spoken word. You crave understanding, love, and affection but are unable to give expression to these thoughts and your cold, aloof exterior appears forbidding to those who would offer kindness. You have a sensitive nature--sensitive to your environment and particularly sensitive to how your intelligence and manner are regarded by others. Your feelings are very easily hurt and to protect yourself you withdraw within the realms of your own private thoughts and shut out the rest of the world. Moods, which are your worst enemy, result. Your sensitivity and lack of verbal expression frustrate and limit the satisfaction in life to be gained from your responsible and capable nature.

Wow, I can't believe how so much of this applies to my Simon! Visit the Kabalarian Philosophy Page to check out your own names.
